Description

The girl wandered from her place not far into the forest and out into the bustling city street. She let her eyes wander at all the sights to be seen, how much this place had changed since she had last remembered it.

She passed her old orphanage, newly build with stone instead of wood.

She passed the old apartment building she lived in less than a year ago, built up from when she had burned it.

She passed the empty lot where an old wooden house to to stand.

She passed many faces she had yet to acknowledge, but one stood out among the rest.

There he was, standing there trying to 'woo' another girl. She felt herself stop at the sight of this, all the bustling people pushing past her in their hurry to somewhere. She watched for a few moments before he caught her eye, and slowly stopped talking to the girl. She shook her head, turning again and continuing with the crowd, this time back to the forest as she always did. He called for her to come back, and she kept walking. He pushed through the crowd, she burst into a run, managing to escape to the forest again. But she kept running, not risking being caught by the likes of him. She didn't want to see him again, she didn't need that awkward interaction that led to an argument that might as well cause her the scars she already has.

    "Julian, for god's sakes, wait!"

She slowed to a stop, turning towards him, he no more than ten feet away.

He reached out to her, opening his mouth to say something before pulling back and rubbing the back of his neck.

"Look." He started, "I realize you don't want to see me, let alone what you just saw... but I've missed you. You've been gone for 3 years, kid. That's a long time for me to cope without you."

Julian stared at him for a moment, searching for any emotion besides the obvious sorrow and hate for himself. She looked down, to scared to make eye contact while she took her turn to spoke.

"I realize that you need me, I realized this the first time we shook hands that night. We're two of a kind, Timebomb. Two half-bloods left in this pitiful human world to fend for ourselves, and with them gone-"

"Who cares about them? What matters is us."

"What matters is that we survive long enough for us to finish out contract, and without them it's useless, Timebomb. Haven't you realized this?"

He stared at her with confusion in his eyes, "What do you mean without them?"

Julian looked up at him, angry with how ignorant he was playing.

"What do I mean? I mean that they were the key to getting us back to our world, our realm - the demon realm! Jesus Christ Timebomb you're just as stupid as the last time I remembered!"

She gasped lightly, looking up at him, now in regret, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean it-"

"Sure you didn't. Why are you saying it now though? Why not say it 3 years ago when they were still here? Why leave it to just us to find a way back? Which, for your information, Is basically impossible for us alone."

Julian shook her head, her hands trembling as she forced them shut to stop the shaking.

"I was a timid girl, Timebomb. I didn't know right from wrong, good from bad, truth from lies - Hell I didn't even know if he loved me back or if he hated me just as the others did!"

Timebomb watched her, Julian watched him. They stood there, staring at each other for who knows how long in the awkward silence that needed to be filled.

"Your hair is short. Why'd you cut it?" He inquired, shoving his hands into his pockets and walking closer.

"What?" She responded, backing up as he walked forward.

"I said you cut your hair. Why, though? It was cute the way it was."

"I... I cut it because it made more sense for where I was going. The longer my hair was the more it got in the way."

    "You're not wearing your glasses."

    "I lost them."

    "Bullshit."

She looked to the ground as her back pressed against a large tree, Timebomb now standing in front of her. She had no way to escape now.

"Where are your glasses?"

"I told you I lost them."

"And I told you that was Bullshit. You never lost your glasses before and I sure as hell don't think you would lose them then."

"I don't know what you think your gonna get from seeing me with my glasses on. But Like I said I don't know where they are." Julian replied, looking up at him. He matched her gaze, completely emotionless save the frustration his voice.

"Where did you last have them?"

    "When I left."

    "And then you lost them?"

"Yea, basically. I stayed a night more in my tree and when I woke up they were just.. Gone."

Timebomb backed up, groaning and rubbing his temples, "Glasses don't just disappear, Julian. Where are they?"

"They do kinda 'just disappear', Timebomb. And for the tenth time already, I don't know! For all I know he could have taken them if he had known I was still in town."

He looked up from the ground and over at her, "Can you see?"

"Kind of. It's blurry but I can manage."

"Good. Stay where you are." He replied, walking over again.

"What? Why? What are you going to-"

Timebomb leaned down, placing a gentle peck on her cheek and backed up again, "There."

Julian felt her face heat up, as she looked up, "What was that for? Do you-"

"Hell no. I still have feelings for that fuck-face who left with your idiot. But you're my closest friend, why wouldn't I do that?"

    "Have you always done that?"

"Once or twice after you had gone to sleep, yea."

Julian took a moment, staring down before muttering, "You miss them to, don't you?"

Timebomb shrugged, "The feelings indifferent. I never really cared for them in the first place."

"Yet you nearly killed me when I back-talked your man."

"Shut up about that will you!"

    Julian chuckled, "Never."

He groaned, falling back onto the ground and sitting up against the tree. He had never expected to see her so well off on her own in such a short time... Nevertheless her being confident like that. He had always known her as the shy kid who was to afraid to even write a love letter to send to him anonymously, to him she was a timid ball of light that he wanted to care for and protect. But she had grown up too fast, her light had faded long ago and he could see that.

He was startled from his thoughts when he felt a body sit next to his and lean on him. He stared down at her for a moment, before sighing and smiling softly, wrapping an arm around her and holding her close.

"You're such a baby." She yawned, closing her eyes.

"Not like you're any better." He replied, leaning back against the tree, still holding her as he let his own eyes close and his mind begin to wander into dreamland.

Wow. This story was even more awful than I thought it would turn out. It was mostly just talks about glasses. I suppose timebomb likes to focs on the little details to make sure Julian is ok.
